FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PERCUSSO A PERCUSSION REVOLUTION
Percusso is developed by Australian company Hybrid Percussion .
It is the first percussion instrument to combines the sounds of
tambourine and clave (wood block) into a single instrument,
both sounds can be produced independently or in unison and
are played with one hand. All sounding parts can be changed
or altered, enabling musicians to develop personalised sonic textures.
The body is sleek, hardened alloy and stainless steel give it strength.
It is loud - made to be played with samba groups or on stage, where
the player really needs to cut through without using too much energy;
equally it can be toned down for practice.
The rhythmic capabilities of Percusso extend the current possibilities
of traditional hand percussion instruments. Many classic Latin rhythms
can be played once a few simple mechanical moves are learned.
Having control over two sounds means you can now play five beats
directly over four beats, in one hand. This is a first!
Percusso is set up so you can remove the jingles and replace them in
different configurations, producing a lighter or darker tonal quality.
Modifying the sound of a hand percussion instrument has never been
such a simple option. You can easily experiment by substituting the
jingles with coins or anything else that will produce a good sound.
The clave can also be altered for a lower tone. Hybrid Percussion will
introduce a variety of sounds to further extend the possibilities of Percusso.
The founder of Hybrid Percussion, Mat Ledgar, has spent over twenty
years as an international touring musician. “Percussion has inspired
me to travel, experience many cultures and encounter traditional
instruments. These instruments create powerful rhythmic forms,
movements and expressions. I've found great percussion moves
people to extraordinary places.
Hybrid Percussion’s aim is to craft new instruments that respect
tradition while providing versatility for today’s music.
Percusso counts in a revolution“.
